Petersburg 2026 Earth Month Proclamation

WHEREAS, An international Earth Day each year can provide a special time to draw
people together in appreciation of their mutual home, Planet Earth, and bring a global
feeling of a healthy community and sustainability through realization of our deepening
desire for life, freedom, love, and our mutual dependence on each other; and

WHEREAS, Through voluntary action, individuals can join with one another in building
the Earth in harmony with nature and promoting support of those activities by private
and government agencies; and

WHEREAS, Earth Day does not have to be relegated to only one day a year, this year
Petersburg will Celebrate Earth MONTH during the entire month of April 2026; and

WHEREAS, Menard County Trails & Greenways encourages businesses,
organizations, and individuals in Petersburg to raise awareness of environmental,
health, and sustainable life issues by organizing at least one event or activity during
April.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
In special recognition of the efforts and dedication of the citizens, businesses, and
organizations in Petersburg, I, Rick Snyder, Mayor of Petersburg, Illinois, do hereby
proclaim April 2026, as EARTH MONTH in Petersburg. I encourage all citizens to
participate in healthy and sustainable activities during the month of April, and
throughout the year, to make Petersburg healthy and environmentally friendly.
